Uniting contemporary electric music with kink culture was part of our mission when launching in 2016. The list of artists that came to populate the halls for Verboten since is endless, and from this very space several artists emerged and shaped today’s soundscape.

The Battle for Tower Hamlets
In March 2022, the Tower Hamlets Council weaponized the 1982 Local Government Act to drop a blanket “no nudity” clause on East London venues like E1 which became our London home for a time. It was a bureaucratic attempt to regulate us out of existence under the guise of municipal licensing. They expected us to roll over, or worse, turn our door staff into anatomical border police targeting queer, trans, and kink identities at the threshold. We didn’t play along. On July 26, 2022, hundreds of our members packed the steps of the Town Hall in full leather, latex, and heavy chains. We forced them to look at the community they were trying to erase. We showed them that our internal, militant consent protocols enforced by our blue-beret safeguarding team make our dance floors infinitely safer than any mainstream venue they license. By August 2nd, the council capitulated and stripped the clause entirely. It was a landmark legal victory, but more importantly, it became our blueprint for survival. Now, as we plant flags in Manchester, Paris, Amsterdam, and Warsaw, we are exporting that exact infrastructure.

UK premiere of Bruce LaBruce’s The Visitor

Klub Verboten and A/POLITICAL presented an immersive porn cinema experience and play party: The UK premiere of Bruce LaBruce’s The Visitor – a hardcore porn remake of Pasolini’s Theorema (1968).
A night at the cinema like no other. This event revived the participatory culture of historical porn theatres, particularly gay cruising spaces, while reimagining the premiere format – transforming passive observers into active participants, mirroring the transformative journey in The Visitor. Here, sexual experience is a weapon of social, ideological and personal liberation. The event created a unique fusion of political pornography and immersive cinema. LaBruce, the ever-provocative disruptor and cult filmmaker, is known for live acts that challenge the borders of art, sexuality, and politics. This event was an open invitation to witness, connect, and play in a unique experience that will redefine the boundaries of art, participation, and play.
